In 2016, the Livonia Jaycees kicked off a new project, our "80's Murder Mystery Dinner," which benefited Seedlings Braille Books for Children. The money raised from the event was able to provide 100 braille books. That event also won "Breakout Project of the Year" at the Michigan Jaycees 2016 Year-End Conference!
For 2017, we hosted a "Speakeasy Swank Murder Mystery Dinner" for the Livonia Kids and Families non-profit, in our movement towards "Zero Hunger" within our community (UN Sustainability Goal #2). Livonia Kids and Family is a driving force in our community to stomp out hunger. Qualifying families fill out a monthly "shopping list". Staff members pull items from the pantry and pack them for shipping, which is provided courtesy of Eric Ladwig at The UPS Store in Livonia. This door to door delivery helps maintain the privacy for the families being served. The program is currently assisting 37 families, which represent about 100 children and 50 adults.
This swanky event was held on April 1 at One Under Bar and Grill with over 100 attendees, raising $1420. Attendees were assigned 1920’s “gangs” and battled one another in different activities, including a dance off and monotone lyrics to win secret clues and bragging nights.
